Meet Chris McQuilkin
Growing up in Northern Ireland during the Irish Troubles, a young Chris McQuilkin found solace and an escape in his love for skateboarding in the midst of conflict. In 1996, this love affair led him to Canada, where he has made it his home ever since.
Presently residing in Richmond, B.C., Chris has become a highly skilled and acclaimed garden designer. He is renowned for his distinctive design language and his unique approach to plant material, it is because of this atypical garden design work that he has captured the attention of industry experts, including the esteemed Canadian landscape architect, Cornelia Oberlander.
Chris is equally talented behind the camera lens, as he is crafting sculptures for the unique outdoor spaces he creates. His current body of drawings merges his love for history with his understanding of colour and balance, gained through a keen observation of seasonal changes.
Much of his philosophy is derived from what many would perceive as flaws…
“I’m not interested in perfect, I’m interested in a collection of imperfections.
That’s the best platform...
One comprised entirely by many imperfect moments.’’
